道德經第12章
五色令人目盲;五音令人耳聾;五味令人口爽;馳騁田獵,令人心發狂;難得之貨,令人行妨。是以聖人為腹不為目,故去彼取此。
The five colours blind us
The five sounds make us deaf
The five tastes numb our taste buds
Gaming got us infatuated
Chasing scarce valuables waste our precious time
Therefore the sage avoids stimulating his senses
Seek the everlasting instead of the fleeting.
Paul's inspiration: We all have our choices, haven't we?
Modern psychology teaches us that under certain circumstances, a person can be consumed or totally controlled by one of his affective states; or his affective state seems to have become another personality that can, under certain circumstances, take over the control of his "normal" ego. Love is one of those affective states, and it is not always bad to let loose of our internal control or inhibition under such circumstances! I mean that includes the love of the Divine, however one defines It.
Having said that, the important point is, we should be feeling free to let our affective state control ourselves, under certain circumstances, and for a good cause. In other words, we should take responsibility in doing so, and assuming that we know what we're doing.
