周易參同契:大易总叙章第一
春夏據內體，從子到辰巳，秋冬當外用，自午訖戌亥。賞罰應春秋，昏明順寒暑，爻辭有仁義，隨時發喜怒，如是應四時，五行得其理。
My rendition:
The beginning should start with growth and fire from inside
Like Spring and Summer
The ending should finish with calmness and coolness from outside
Like Autumn and Winter
Spring and Autumn should control the flow
Whereas consciousness should control the warmth or coldness
When the trigrams are not managed well
They will disturb one’s balance
But if one takes care the requirements of each of the four Seasons
The five elements will be organized.
